It looks to me like the interim decision has to be ratified by the Board on March 26th. Does anyone know if this is just a formality? Or if they could change their minds?

Usually just a formality, but they could change their minds. Our trustee is reluctant to re-open the debate, since all the votes on the sections that passed were close. It is possible that if it gets opened up again, we could lose the daycare spots at Connaught, the busing, or (possibly) the FDK. It is also possible that the motion as passed on the 5th could be defeated and a new motion to move the Grade 6 class could pass. Difficult to predict.

In advance of the ratification meeting, I would like to mention that I've been in touch with Board staff and Superintendent MacDonald about what would happen to the JK 2013 cohort once it returns to SK in 2014 at Devonshire.
Bottom line is that there is no guarantee of Full day kindergarten in 2014 for the SKs who would have finished a year of FDK at Connaught.
The current Ontario minority government supports continuing the roll out, so if they stay in power FDK is likely for Devonshire in 2014. Alternatively, if the official opposition takes power (which could happen at almost any time), it is clear about holding off on continuing the roll out of FDK (that is, no FDK in 2014 for Devonshire). I asked the Board staff if the Devonshire JKs coming back for SK would be "grandfathered in " somehow. There are no such plans. Superintendent MacDonald confirmed this morning that they would have to implement whatever the government says (meaning possibly no FDK at Devonshire).
To be clear, other schools that have FDK established wouldn't lose it. Schools like Devonshire that don't officially have FDK wouldn't get it...leaving the JKs returning from Connaught to drop back to half-time in SK.
I personally don't know what to make of this, but just thought people might want to know about this when considering their daycare plans...

Thanks for sharing this, Sarah. It's good to know in order to plan for the now many possible outcomes.
