We had been planning on our daughter to remain in the Connaught daycare while she goes into part-time SK at Devonshire this fall. We are concerned we'll get booted out due to incoming JKs to full-day school at Connaught, should that be the path forward.
Michelle - Hintonburg CC doesn't take kinders as far as I understand.
Judith - now that we've been doing it for the JK year we actually like that our daughter divides her day in two places. It breaks up her day, she gets outside more, and her mornings are pretty low-key at daycare while the school time is quite busy.

I urge you to speak to Michelle at Connaught. I spoke with her tonight about what parents can expect in terms of continuing care at Connaught in the fall. I am reluctant to explain it here, so please talk with her yourself. Some of the changes at Connaught will happen regardless of the interim decision.

MegK - We have tried on several occasions to discuss with Michelle at Connaught re: daycare. She was very clear that she will not speak more to this until decisions are made, obviously you have been more successful in extracting information than us, but we have spoken to her in person, on the phone and via email - all with no further details.
In addition, Elenaor Heap at the board, has said that the board is taking over the daycare at Connaught in Sept, but she will not speak more to it until the Trustees have made their decision and that their decision will impact what happens to the daycare next year. So we have tried to speak to people to get clarity. This is why we are concerned.

I think it's important to underscore that the uncertainty re SK and aftercare spaces at Connaught would be happening even without the accommodation review process, because the program is being taken over by the OCDSB. But the accommodation review process means a delay in the decision making and planning because whatever happens there will have an impact on demand for daycare programming. I wish we would have known about this before now - I think we would have pushed staff harder on the "no loss of daycare spaces" point

KMacey - Please realize that Michelle and the current staff at Connaught daycare are caught in a difficult situation. They have to answer to the parents, but they also have no idea where they will be in September. It is hard to reassure parents, when you lack job security yourself. I'm sorry if Michelle was unable to clarify the situation for you. The real problem is lack of communication from the board to the Devonshire parents at Connaught - the Connaught staff - Michelle included, are caught in a tricky situation. As Vicky said, this problem is regardless of the interim solution.
Right now, no parent has space at Connaught in the fall. Until the board decides otherwise, no one knows what will happen. The board can not make a plan for Connaught because they do not know what the Trustees will decide.
The other thing to consider is that the current daycare/programming/staff will not be the same in September. The board has its own formula for extended care - as outlined on their website. This approach may not be the best fit for all JK/SK students.
