I noticed in the school council minutes from the January meeting that there is a discussion on fundraising activities for the school, particularly whether the book bash is sustainable given the amount of work involved. Read the minutes for more details. I thought it would be timely to ask parents what fundraising ideas they might think would be supported and achievable, whether as a replacement to the book bash or as additional fundraising. Feel free to post some ideas for discussion. Here are some ideas that I thought of or read about. - product sales with school focus (growth calendar, annual calendar with school dates, birthdays and pictures, stainless steel bottles, lunch bags) - store gift cards (see shopandsupport.ca); - local pizza sales (bulk pizza sales or discount gift cards) - penny collection - something creative that gathers up loose change that we all have - Seasonal product sales www.fundraiserhelp.com/seasonal-fundraisers.htm such as pumpkin patch, Christmas wreathes, thanksgiving turkeys, Easter baskets, spring flowers/bulbs, Mother's Day flowers and gifts, Canada day memorabilia Patricia

I like the idea of a penny collection, but I would rather see it go to a specific fundraising goal - something that the kids select as necessary for the school.
My thoughts on fundraising are to tap into the local community. Previously there have been relationships set up with Hintonburger and Collected Works. Finding a locally owned business that we could build a relationship with would be great. Happy Goat Coffee just moved into 35 Laurel St, around the corner from Devonshire. Maybe we could approach them about a Devonshire coffee blend and have a portion of the proceeds go towards a specific school fund.
Other ideas I think would work are fun nights, either parent's only or for families. Elmdale has organized some fun events: - bowling night at Westpark bowling - Napoli's pizza, where for one night a portion of the proceeds are donated back - Kitchen party in the school gym
I prefer the idea of raising money for a specific cause or thing, such as a basketball nets, or outdoor mural, ect. Something the kids select would make it more fun then the parents pushing for something.
It would also be fun to just plan an event for families that isn't a fundraiser, but just a time for Devonshire to come together. Pho & Fun didn't run this year, so something along those lines would be good.

Gingerbread House Fundraiser - Mark your calendar for Saturday December 7. More details will follow. As always, to make this event a success - in addition to ordering lots and lots of houses! - we appreciate all offers to provide baking for sale (muffins, cookies, cupcakes, etc.) and/or to volunteer some time during the event. Please bring your nut-free baking to the school on Friday Dec 6 (teacher lounge) or at the early sittings on Saturday morning (gym).
