Disappointed to hear that at last night's meeting we could not drive a stake through this idea (I thought it was dead). I'm sorry I missed it, so I'm not certain I understand the dynamic. But what about "non starter" and "no way" and "unacceptable" do people not understand? The bottom line is that it is just too far away from this community to be an acceptable option when there is room in closer schools.
Anyway, I would love to hear a debrief.

I'll get the notes up tonight. The upshot: Lil and Christopher tried to get agreement that Gowling is off the table, but one of the other reps wanted to learn more and so it will be discussed at the next meeting. However, they also noted that neither the trustee or parent reps from Gowling have attended the last 2 meetings and there is talk about another review that would include Gowling along with other more westerly schools.

Like Vicky said, Gowling is technically still being discussed, but staff heard very clearly from both Elmdale and Devonshire that it will not be acceptable as a solution for anyone north of Carling. It may just be a matter of discussing it for ten minutes at our next Near West group meeting Monday, and then we can drive a stake in it. Keep in mind that most of the school and community association reps haven't been grappling with this for 5 months, we have a ways to go before everyone is up to speed. The portion of the Devonshire community that has been thinking about accommodation is way ahead of the Near West group. Unfortunately we need to be patient a bit longer

At last night's meeting we took "sending kids from north of Carling to Gowling" off the table. It is now in limbo somewhere with the other things we took off the table: "using McNabb for elementary kids", "move random grades ad hoc" and "add more portables."
