Uploading a briefing note that the Fisher Park subgroup worked on, outlining some of the strengths and weaknesses of the Fisher Park option that was recently discussed by the OCDSB Working Group. Fisher Option Pros and Cons.docx (29.8 KB)

"Fisher is open to the public during the school day as it has city programming and a city rec office. The school office is not within eyesight of the front door. Safety appropriate for elementary kids would need to be addressed. More details from the OCDSB required."
- that point is critical to me, and is buried in the note. There is no point in having our kids safely assisted across Parkdale and Holland, only for them to be unsafe inside the school.

thanks, Darcie
It's important to reinforce the points that resonate the most with Devonshire parents; this will help Lil and Chris represent our views at the table

One of the big "cons" I see to converting Fisher Park to a Jk-8 school is that this larger cohort of kids that we are needing to accommodate in elementary school now, will need to be accommodated in 7-8 and high schools within the next few 5-10 years. The projections for Fisher Park for 2016 already has it at 80% capacity, and I don't think that even includes the grades with the biggest jumps in enrolment (isn't that around the current grade 2s?). There's not all that much room at Fisher Park. Furthermore, we may well need to convert it back into a high school at some point to accommodate these same kids. From that perspective, portables at Elmdale don't look so bad. They could probably at least reduce the number and gain more playground space.
