Ever since the meeting a few months ago regarding the management of school council funds I've been keeping an eye on developments from the Board. It looks like they've finally come up with a recommendation. bit.ly/1908IBLNot a lot will change for us since we're already doing almost everything they mention (in #5.) I'm curious on the establishment of 'district guidelines' and what that might entail but it sounds like they're going to do what they can to allow Councils to retain financial control but with greater monitoring. I will keep everyone updated on the progress, which might be slow given their September 2014 rollout timeline, but if anyone has questions feel free. I will attempt to get to the board meeting where this is up for discussion (the same one as our parking issue actually) so I might have news next week.

For those who are following the funds issue...
Some lively discussion at Committee of the Whole last night with a number of Trustees asking some very pertinent questions. Trustee Shea managed to clarify that, if we bank through school accounts, we would have to use Board procurement when purchasing. Some other clarifications of certain things which I'm happy to relay if anyone has detailed questions but by and large it sounds like they're moving forward with developing a policy to let councils bank on their own, but with more stringent reporting requirements (which again, shouldn't affect us anyway.) I'll keep an eye on it but it's unlikely anything big will be coming before late fall.
