Here is the final presentation that will be delivered by the Near West working group Thursday night at Nepean High School, from 7-9 PM. It is important to note that this was not prepared by Board staff but by a group of parents and community members looking to reflect the diversity of voices and opinions of their respective constituencies. This is by no means complete and the intention is to provide food for thought, get feedback, and generate new ideas. The group will reflect on the feedback offered and consult once again with the public in the early fall. Please review the information and come prepared to give your feedback, whether that is directly to the working group members in the small group portion of the evening or in written comments to nearwestreviewpubliccomments@ocdsb.ca. There will be babysitting provided on site. Public Consultation Slides Final 061813.pptx (698.59 KB) Thanks, Lil and Christopher

Not sure where to post this so I'll put it here just so others are aware. One thing that just dawned on us, is with the implementation of new programs, or increased enrolment through boundary changes, has the working group also been considering the effect and abilities of school sites and their play yards to support the increased pressures due to the increase in staff parking requirements? Given Devonshire fought this for years and Mutchmor recently got blindsided by the OCDSB on this issue after their ARC, I think it is a real concern. If I understand correctly Jennifer McKenzie recently tried to get a moratorium placed on urban schools in regarding conversion of play yards to staff parking and it was not supported, so it would seem OCDSB's intent is to still follow it's previous unofficial policy of staff parking having priority over play yards. Food for thought.

I am quite sure that this hasn't occurred to the Working Committee yet either. For the record - Jennifer McKenzie did try to include all urban schools in her motion - but another trustee complained that it was ourt of order since they were discussing Devonshire's budget for renovations. There are a few trustees who are REALLY big on process... So, it's not that the motion wasn't supported, but more than it would have led to a long debate the trustees were not adequately prepared for. By changing the motion to include Devonshire only, it passed unanimously. I think there is a real appetite to develop the parking policy now and we will see some firm guidelines by next year. That said, it is always smart to be cautious and aware that with increased programs & kids, come more teachers' cars...

Thanks Jamie and Kelly both for bringing this to our attention. Parking is not something we've really discussed yet and will make sure to add that to the mix of factors to consider.
