Claridge just posted an image for their proposed development at 1040 Somerset (where the car repair and computer recycling place is now) /photo/1
They want to build 32 Stories. This is in addition to the 18 going up across Breezehill at the Dollarama site.

I wasn't at the developer meeting but scuttlebutt online is 1040 is going to be 39 storeys and 1050 is actually approved for 23. Safety committee might have to start looking into closing off the north end of Breezehill at this rate... that's a lot of car traffic which I doubt speed bumps will deter...

How about a bump out, with approved bike & bus traffic allowed only? It's gonna be a tricky process to manage!

23 - my bad! I keep getting these developments mixed up. Sigh.

I believe Claridge is intending to have reduced onsite parking for visitors and so may be more dependant on street parking. Wonder if before all these potential tenants become dependent on parking on Breezehill we should consider asking for the parking on the East side of Breezehill to be eliminated to allow for wider sidewalks and maybe a proper student drop off zone for the school.

I'd actually be ok with that idea James but the businesses along Breezehill will fight. If the on-street visitor parking becomes a problem, Claridge is apparently considering linking the garages for 1050 and 1040 so that might mitigate it somewhat (although not entirely.) Although it causes problems in the winter months, we effectively have a drop zone now along Laurel which could be enhanced with a break in the yard fencing at the Breezehill/Laurel corner.
Of interest on the development front... I've been going over the planning documents for 1040 Somerset and their traffic study engineers are recommending a signal at Breezehill/Somerset with a warning on the east side of the bridge (akin to the Bank Street bridge northbound) coupled with a PM no left onto Breezehill from Somerset restriction. That is of course coupled with the 331 units and 39 storeys : ) It's interesting though that Safety Committee asked for that signal a couple years back and was told no but now that a developer wants it...

Apparently, if you pay for it, it can be done.
